fpbThe difference that truly supreme musicianship makes! I just heard Edith Piaf sing Parlez-moi d'amour, a song I simply hated when I heard it from Mireille Mathieu. And Mireille Mathieu is by no means a bad singer. BUT....!!
It works even with stuff that is great in itself. I have been listening over and over again to Glenn Gould's accounts of Beethoven's piano sonate. These are among the peaks of the art of music, but Gould proves that it is possible to add even to something that is already incomparably great.
