I agree with pretty much everything you said. As I mentioned in responses to others, one of my gay friends hated it when a pub went gay on him and he found himself in that atmosphere of being looked up and weighed up; and another refused the very terms "gay" and "homosexual" because of the baggage they carried. And I would say that lesbians are to some extent different - but not to the extent that they are not promiscuous, and not to the extent that they do not ruin their lives by running around. If you have been kept awake one whole night, as I have been, by a quarrel between two lesbians on the way to breaking up, where you could hear every word through two closed doors, you would not take that view.
