Over the last few weeks, a bald patch has become learly visible on the back of my head, and at the same time the receding of my hairline has become noticeable. Pity really, because my hair was the one feature of me I rather liked.

Just don't get a comb-over monstrosity. Men don't need fur like a chinchilla to be sexy. My husband's hair is getting thinner (and grey), but he notices it a lot more than I do.

It could be worse - your hair problems could be part of an Olympic doping scandal and then everyone in the country could be watching time-lapse photography of your temples.

P.S.: I know it's not nice to make fun of typos, but if your bald patch is "learly visible", you should be careful when it's talking to its daughters :-P

To everyone who has responded. There are four things I will not do: shave - as I have known friends to do when the dreaded big B struck - comb over, wear a wig, or grow my hair long. I am old-fashioned on the matter of male looks; I have a gut feeling, call it sexist if you will, that it is all right for women to make themselves up and play around with their hair - within limits of sense - but that there is something rather unmanly about males doing so.

I think it is wise that you will not do these four things. You will still look dignified and as if you have some common sense!(except some men look great shaved, but not all men).

And as for male looks, I'm afraid I'm right there with you (though you may have cause to say I have inconsistent ideas when it comes to the genders! So sue me!).

But don't fret about your hair; I bet you look just fine! Although I guess it's just one of those shocks that growing older gives us from time to time.
