As a regular target for the sanctimonious crowd in fandom_wank, I cannot be expected to like them. But I simply could not believe my eyes when I saw these vampires, who make their reputation by wrecking others', had the nerve to act all self-righteous. Believe it or not, they actually instructed their fandom - after having formed a fandom purely by holding people up to public ridicule - not to "troll" on the blogs that they themselves insulted! This has to be the most sublime act of hypocrisy since a British tabloid last took offence at anyone else's immorality.

In this case, I think I was justified in giving a very restrained suggestion of how hypocritical I found their attitude. But I honestly could not believe my luck when the person who replied showed every single feature they themselves love to discover in others - irritability, preciousness, vapidity, immaturity, self-regard, and a complete lack of self-awareness, let alone self-criticism. For your amusement and delectation, then, I give you: a perfect instance of fandom wank!

Don't we all just love fortified "elite" cliques and talentless hack cabals?

"... irritability, preciousness, vapidity, immaturity, self-regard, and a complete lack of self-awareness, let alone self-criticism."

Alas, it is so often what we find in the arts.

Just ignore them, Fabio. They're too convinced that they're right to listen to anyone. And I don't understand what the fuss is about that typo, since (a) it's just a typo, (b) she made it. She could have checked before posting her comment, because when you're commenting on someone's spelling, it doesn't look very good when you don't spell things right yourself. Oh well. Don't worry about it. It's not worth it.

Well, Marie, the thing is that, before we ever met, I was really tormented by those people. The worst was when they advertised a story of mine as being anti-gay - it wasn't - and I got literally hundreds of hate e-mails and dozens of vicious pseudo-reviews. And I wonder whether you were around last year when someone decided that my essay about Blaise Zabini was racist - again, the hate e-mails numbered in the hundreds, even though that was, by comparison, a damp squib, with several people seeing right through it. Fandom_wank is an engine of public defamation, and, frankly, to get even a little of my own back on them, ce n’est pas pour me déplaire.

I read all about these incidents (for lack of a better word), and fandom_wank really behaved badly (I agree with you that they're vicious bullies). However, there are thousands of them and you're on your own. You're only risking to get more hurt, not revenged. I know that you're a very brave person, but this strikes me as a little reckless.
Anyway, I think that the people who go online to bully other people probably wouldn't dare say anything in real life, and take opportunity of the protection of the Internet to be as awful as they want. I highly doubt that those people are balanced, let alone happy. So in a sense, they deserve your contempt, and your pity if you feel charitable enough for that, but not the effort of pointing out their hypocrisy.
