You couldn't make it up dept. no.54: Cultural icons

One of France's leading cultural icons is the philosopher and journalist, Bernard-Henry Levy. He is about my age, tall and handsome and a ready writer, not without courage.

What I did not know till recently is that he has an equally attractive wife. She has just hit the headlines in her own right by taking up a post as lead singer in another icon of French culture - the famous strip joint "The Crazy Horse."

Well, I think it's bizarre that [insert American celebrity of your choice] is [insert a quality dubiously attributed to said celebrity by the general press, i.e., Anna Nicole Smith's attractiveness].

Hmmm... You just mentioned my main gripe about Kylie Minogue. How the Hell does anyone manage to become a slutty sex symbol when they are not pretty enough to be convincingly slutty?

I keep wanting to rearrange the words in your sentence somehow ... is prettiness a prerequisite for being slutty? I thought the only thing you needed to qualify was a pulse. I do think you should be, at the least, pleasant to look at in order to be a sex symbol. At least until they invent Braille photography.
