A friend recced me this video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gB0UNey-Uk. I found it fun, but it also gave me some interesting thoughts. I found myself thinking that Fred Astaire in his prime, minus the dance numbers, would have made a really terrifying bad guy, if anyone had ever thought of using him for one. Take the smile and the friendliness away, and that disconcerting smoothness and air of always being in charge would have made a villain whose power and terror would just build up through the story, so that half-way through one would wonder if anyone could ever take him down. I had the same idea for a member of my f-list: take away anything except her beauty, intelligence and social aptitude, and, again, one would have a character potentially as scary as Ben Kingsley in Sexy Beast or Bogart in his worst villainous roles. I wonder... plot bunnies, plot bunnies.

That occurred to some, back in the day, but I heard he wouldn't take such roles--the best he'd do villain wise was as a Raffles sort.

BTW loved the video--Cyd Charisse and Astaire were awesome together.

I am insanely curious to know who you mean.

I'm guessing [livejournal.com profile] asakiyume, who would no doubt commence with very whimsical serial killing.

This was awesome. As a fan of both Fred Astaire and Michael Jackson, I was eating up every minute of it. I never realized until today how much Hugh Laurie favors Fred Astaire though. I had to do a double-take watching the video.
