As I said, abortion as such has little to do with what I am describing here, but, if I remember correctly of course, it shows that Reagan was pretty much going with the flow at the time. There does seem to be something about California - look at Arnold's rhetoric about "girle men" (which implies that effeminacy is somehow wrong) as compared with the reality of his highly sympathetic treatment of the local gay community.
