These posts about politics are interesting to me, as I admittedly don't know much about the detailed workings of other countries' governments. I did not know that Britain was having a mortgage crisis too, although it seems the cause is slightly different than ours over here. The gas prices I knew about, since that seems to be a worldwide problem. Did the government give any good reason for tearing down resalable houses? When the government buys land here, it will often offer the houses sitting on it dirt cheap, a couple of thousand dollars or so, but the new owners then have to pay to move them to their own land.
I'm also curious, do you have value added tax or sales tax in Britain? When I was in Europe a few years ago, the price on everything already included tax, so you could be paying as high as 30% tax on some things and not realizing it. It was an eye-opener, as I was used to US shopping, where the tax is added at the cash register and you know exactly how much you're paying!
