You did two supremely risky things here: in the first place, bringing an almost-too-good-to-be-true real life person's story as an OC into a fanfic, and secondly rather than simply slotting it into interstices in the existing universe, actually arranging things to make her story central to the foundations of the main narrative.
However, I think if you had not attempted both at once, failure would have been inevitable. As it is, I feel a bit like I've just watched you successfully jump the Grand Canyon on a moped, except the story isn't a gimmick.
