Depending on whether your flat gets much sun and what sort of restrictions your landlord imposes regarding window air conditioning units etc., you might want to look into getting a passive solar heater for your window.
My flat has, by chance, a virtually perfect east-west orientation. One side gets the early morning light, the other the evening sun. I never get it at all when it is at its brightest and warmest.
