Part of it has to do, I think, with the way the writers of the new series have rather deliberately sexualized The Doctor. RTD's tenure has come to resemble nothing so much as bad fanfic, in every sense of the word, out to the limit of what he could get away with on what is ostensibly a children's program. With canon like that, is it any wonder?
