Both Julius Caesar and Abraham Lincoln, when questioned about the extraordinary efficacy and pointedness of their styles, answered that the first thing they had done when learning to speak in public was to make a thorough study of the meaning of words in their languages, so that they never should use a word inappropriately. The person who uses "planned" in that absurd sense ought to hearken.
