About my left-hand ring finger...

...I have come to the conclusion that it is probably not actually broken. It must be chipped or something, because it still hurts, and it's stiff and a bit swollen, but I can type with it. As a matter of fact, type is the only thing I can do, because anything that asks for more strength is pretty much out. I have a feeling that it is getting better, but it still provides a background of steady, unpleasant bone pain to everything I do during the day.

Goodness! I turn my back for a few seconds and you're breaking your hands!

I hope your finger recovers swiftly-- splint it if you have to, just don't hurt it worse. <3

Get some MSM and glucosamine. The MSM is an antiflammatory and the glucosamine helps rebuild cartilage. It was used on horses for years before it was marketed for people--we all used to take little pinches of our horses' meds when the winter made us particularly achy.

Take it easy and feel better soon!

I fumbled a catch of a football on Christmas day and hurt my little finger; it was quite sore. Over the following weeks/months I could use it fine, for grasping and typing, etc, but it still hurt - a 'sore bruise' pain - if I curled it up. I pretty much forgot about it after a week or two, it only hurt if I consciously curled it up.

It *slowly* got better, but even now, 3.5 months later, it (a) is a little sore when I curl it up, (b) the lower joint looks inflamed and much thicker than my other finger, and (c) I can't straighten it; it's permanently crooked.

I finally got an X-ray last week. The doctor reckons the bone suffered some sort of fracture, and healed crooked; it'll never be straight again. :-( Hopefully the soreness will eventually go away. Had I had it examined shortly after the accident I guess it could have been put in a splint and heal properly. As it was it looks like it healed in the normally-curved posture that one's fingers normally adopt. So you might want to have it looked at. FYI.
