AN APOLOGY

It seems as if the Bin Laden mission was a full-fledged assassination after all.

I apologize to all those with whom I discussed the issue from mistaken premises.

(P.S.: Why do the US authorities always do this sort of thing? Isn't it better to keep one's trap shut until you know the facts?)

I think your generous spirit impels you to put the best possible light on a situation.

But I'm afraid the screwup on the release of OBL info by the Administration goes far beyond even US standards.

I've had four people tell me in 24 hours (None of them a fringe extremist and 3 not even very politally partisan) that they don't believe he's dead.

Well, you should be grateful to Al Qaida, then, which has stated without ambiguity that he has gone for the 72 virgins.

Facts have never had any impact on public discourse on the US.

Alas, it was. I rather thought it was when I first heard the news. It had to be. There was no capturing him, even if he wanted to be captured.

Only decent joke, so far...

...to emerge from the whole mess.

Osama bin Laden was killed, and we got 72 versions

Got it from Larry Auster's blog
