Almost exactly a year ago, I wrote a post denouncing Marauder slash, which I found offensive (on the grounds that it was a bunch of fangirls saying "look, there are four boys going around everywhere together - they've got to be gay) and thoroughly hostile to the nature of the characters. Due to the incurable incapacity of many in fandom to understand anyt but the broadest and most loose generalizations, there was a bit of a kerfuffle, during which the usual charges of queerbashing and all the rest of it were given a thorough airing by people who mostly knew nothing whatever about me but did not feel this prevented them having opinions. It was a singularly unpleasant episode, during which I discovered the use of the ban button.

Now JKR has shown that Remus is straight (we always knew James was), which makes Marauder slash in general about as canonical as a Confederate three-dollar bill. Incidentally, she has validated my favourite bit of fanon - though I personally never wrote any Remus/Tonks, I loved writers like [livejournal.com profile] kikei and[livejournal.com profile] pandoraculpa who did, and said so in several reviews. Now, if someone wants to take refuge in Sirius-Peter, I do not envy them; and meanwhile, allow me a quiet little gloat.

(Believe it or not, someone has called JKR an "immature cunt" for validating Remus/Tonks. These are the authorities...)

EDITED: Just read the Waah-Spoilers thread in FA. Or rather, had a look at it - I could not bring myself to read it to the end. What a bunch of self-blinded morons. The most common complaint being that Ginny comes out of nowhere - Great Jesus in Heaven, what did you need, to be bitten on the leg? - and that she is a Mary Sue - meaning that any positive, courageous, loving character is a Mary Sue. Twerps! They all fell in love with their own little ideas and could not bear to be told they had been too clever by half.

Pandora and Kikei are teh win at R/T, as are After The Rain, and I think samvines/copperbadge wrote some great stuff. Tis my OTP as well (though I am rather partial to Stan Shunpike/Mundungus now that JKR OMG VALIDATED MY PAIRING WHEN SHE PUT THEM BOTH IN AZKABAN OMG LOLZ TRU LUV!!!), but tis like comparing mine to theirs as is Tara Reid to Grace Kelly.

The only thing you can do about the whingers is just go OMG LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLZ PWNED and hope to god that they STFU for even a minute.

It also helps that they are both thoroughly sweet and lovely people and I love their LJs. After The Rain also comes across as nice, and perhaps I should friend her. Copperbadge/Samvimes, I regret to say, I don't think I have read.

ATR is pretty awesome. She's a grad student who teaches teh Engrish at a state university, meaning she does pretty much what I have to do for VTM but she gets paid to lolz at people. I must find you some of Samvines' Remus/Tonks fics for they are quite grouse.

I actually have a whole list of authors, I must put them up sometime. I know Briana started writing a really good Remus/Tonks some time ago and hasn't continued, I must continue to poke her into doing that.

I am always having trouble with slang. What does PWNED mean, please?

It's a sub-branch of 'owned', which pretty much means someone owns you in stakes of eliteness (or, more correctly, 1337/|/355). Essentially, some dickhead typed it wrongly, and thus folklore was spawned.

Just popping in to second the recommendation for After the Rain. Excellent writer. I think you might also enjoy SnorkackCatcher, who has a good chaptered fic on Schnoogle called 'Nymphadora Tonks and the Liquor of Jacmel'.

I guess I'll have a look at both. I owe SnorkcckCatcher, anyway, for a few positive reviews.

Ink: An Epistolary Romance is a good one to check out. There was another title in there somewhere as well that I'd fallen in love with. I'm assuming you saw my niffle of 'Shifts', by one of the best R/T authors on the net (FernWithy), so you should definitely check those ones out.

All of a sudden my in-tray is bulging. Thank you all, but this much will do. I am a lazy reader as it is.

Well, you saw how I feel about Ginny and the people who diss the ship. Of course I have a soft spot for the character because of my own fic, but geez - came out of nowhere? These things usually do. JKR got it exactly right, and I just hope they get back together before the end.

To be completely fair about it, Remus could be bisexual (although it's a little creepy to have carried on with cousins, if that's the scenario). But I'm glad that he's got someone to make him happy and people should stop whining about it.

Remus could definitely be bisexual. And now he has a lover who could fulfill all his needs. *g* If she can do a pig's snout, I don't think Dora will have any trouble with a simple cock.

Boy, amazing how passionately people will defend a lost cause. Lupin is into the opposite sex. Deal with it.

So, where are you going to invest all those Confederate dollars? In the Jacobite Party of Great Britain? Or in the Bonapartists?

Nose, silly, they're going to invest it in the Titanic. It's been running for nigh on ninety years now.

Bad Fabio: that response should be 'OMIGOD SHUT UP OR I'M GOING TO SMASH YOOUUUUU'. The Titanic clearly has been running. If you haven't seen it, you must've been reading the better part of the twentieth century WRNOG.

The Romilda Vane version of history - if you don't like the way a ship floats or sinks, just use a magical something to change it around by main force. (If you see my metaphor.)

Oh, I see. So they really did have lazers back in the 1910s to melt the ass off that motherfucking iceberg.

Ugh, I know how you feel about the Ginny/Mary Sue thing, mostly because the complaining seems to go along the lines of "How dare someone be pretty and talented? DIE, DIE, DIE!" Girls do the same thing real life all the time. You know, when girls dare to actually have some sort of confidence in themselves.

Of course, Ginny did let me down just a little, if only because I'd hoped she would beat somebody up in this book, preferably Draco Malfoy. Still, I like her and I wouldn't mind writing their relationship in a fic. (Though Gun's right; I probably should finish pre-HBP fics before anything else...)
