Speaking Chinese badly anthropologist would be more true.

A couple of these people are not on my f-list or even on a particularly friendly footing with me. It's just, as you say, the variety of people you meet - and their accomplishments. In this it compares very favourably with comics fandom as I used to know it, but perhaps comics fans did not reveal so much of their private lives.
