very nice! The line work around the face is impressive, especially seeing how you used i to indicate the wrinkles around the eyes and forehead.

Also, it looks like you've got the start of a very nice composition there. Can't quite tell, because it would ultimately depend on how light and shadow was use, but it's already better than the standard portrait composition.

The hand is also fairly well done. Maybe a little flattened, but I can't tell for sure because of where it cuts off.

I'm such a sucker for sketches
In progress work fascinates me

But yeah, very nice!

I think that, being a comic-book artist by training, all my drawings tend to imply a story. Here, Dumbledore is clearly thinking about something specific, and may be plotting a plan of action. So it is not really a portrait.

(I remember one exchange with a friend who was a talented portrait painter, which epitomized the difference between cartoonist and painter. She was going through a period of artist's block, so I suggested that she had a go at painting me to break the impasse. She: "Great. How do you want me to show you?" Me: "Don't know. How do you see me?".)

The hand is wrong, by the way - place your fingers in that position and you will find that the tip falls inside, not outside, the ridge of the heel. As a rule, I use my hands as models, but this time I was lazy - I only noticed now.
