Simone Moro, an Italian mountain climber, managed to reach the top of Everest but was forced to make his way down on the northern (Chinese) side. The Chinese authorities promptly took him for a spy, arrested him and expelled him.

*dies* Oh, that's kind of really hilarious. Sorry. My country does some really sodding stupid things but this is at least on the harmless side. At least he got back to Italy? =)

Well, I presume so, since I found his story on an Italian paper. There does not seem to have been any violence or anything involved - he was just chucked across the frontier.

China is not at war with Italy and there is no presumption that Italians who happen to be there may have hostile designs.

No. With Islam. And in the case of Islam, we know all too well that citizenship can be deceptive. All the suicide mass murderers of July 7 in London were British citizens. If they had ended up in Guantanamo Bay before they had the chance to fulfil their designs, there would be some sixty people alive today who are dead. And do not think they are the only ones. Another lot of Muslim British citizens is being tried right now, with overwhelming evidence, for planning a massacre in a public place, preferably a night club.
