The BBC commentators have a certain magical quality.

In the last Brazil match, they opened by repeatedly criticizing Ronaldo for being fat, slow and unfit, and they had great fun mocking Felipe Scolari's report of what Ronaldo's former manager at Inter had told him about the player - "even if Ronaldo is only at 60% on a given day, you have to play him, because he is the kind of player who can solve a match for you." They only stopped laughing and making fun when Ronaldo hammered home his second goal, surpassing Pele' as Brazil's all-time World Cup scorer and matching the greatest record ever.

This time they started by reminding us that the once-prolific England captain, David Beckham (for whom I have a great deal of respect) had not scored in twelve games. WHAM! Beckham scores what looks like being the deciding goal.

I wonder if I can convince them to say that Italy does not stand the least chance of winning the Cup?

*L* I love things like that. It does look like some kinda magic when it happenes several times in a row.

I'll offer to help Italy out by *not* rooting for them. Whoever I want to win usually crashes and burns spectacularly seconds before they would win. I have bad luck that way.

Beckham's goal was so very effortless-looking. ABC played it over and over again in slow-mo, and even I (the one who knows next to nothing about the game) knew that the spin was absolutely beautiful. :D

It is typical of him. Beckham is famous for scoring from what we call "dead ball" situations. From your point of view, too, I don't suppose it hurts that he is one of the handsomest men in football, blond and blue-eyed wtih a well-shaped face and a nice smile.

Haha, yes, he is very good-looking.
