The other day, as I walked down one of Ilford's main roads, I spotted a man in front of me. I could only see his back. I noticed that he was big and muscular; and he was wearing a black t-shirt with the word Supreme in white gothic script and a cross-type design, the kind of thing that , to me, says neo-nazi a mile off.
Then, and only then, I consciously realized that I could see his skin. And he was black as coal.
