A splendid sermon from Rowan Williams
Mar. 25th, 2008 07:42 pmAs everyone knows, I am a great fan of the current Pope, and think highly, among other things, of his sermons. But I have to say that this Easter, his sermon has been, as far as I am concerned, completely overshadowed by that of Rowan Williams, Anglican Archbishop of Canterbury. I only heard passages of it, but I sought out the whole text, and publish it here, behind an LJ-cut. Those lucky enough to hear the whole of it must have felt as if they were in Constantinople in the days of St.John of the Golden Mouth, or in Oxford or Birmingham when John Henry Newman preached, or in South France in the time of St.Dominic. I cannot praise it enough, and I can see now why
camillofan was so struck by his preaching back in our common Alma Mater.

A strong fic rec
Mar. 25th, 2008 07:55 pmMy relationship with
kennahijja is heavily burdened by a couple of grave problems: first, that I am convinced that she is a writer of genius, and she refuses to accept it; second, that we disagree on just about everything, beginning with the small matter of religion. That being the case, I am astonished and pleased to find that she has dedicated a superlative Dumbledore/Grindelwald fic to me, and that I am supposed to have inspired it in some way. If you care for good writing, and if you don't have a problem with a clearly outlined - though utterly non-explicit - homosexual love context, go read it: http://kennahijja.insanejournal.com/197786.html. The only problem is that now I feel obliged to write something in exchange, and frankly the idea of coming up to her standards is daunting.
