Stupid, vicious, crazed little tyrant

In a sufficiently dangerous world, where two real and gigantic problems - the rise of a tyrannical, nationalistic and very powerful China, whose long-term ambitions are not clear; and the failed integration into the world community of the Muslim world - desperately need sound and clear-sighted statesmanship, the last thing we needed is that miserable dwarf in Pyongyang taking time out from murdering his people in order to threaten his neighbours with atomic weapons he has no business having and that will do nothing to relieve the systemic starvation of his vile tyranny. This creates an area of high tension at the centre of the world's third most important economic area, and further complicates the already difficult relationships between the US, Japan, China, and a resurgent and bad-tempered Russia. I hope the Dear Leader gets cancer from his damned nuclear toys.

Date: 2006-10-09 04:18 am (UTC)China's going to annex N. Korea anyway. It's just a useful tool for them at the moment to keep the West off-balance. Once its usefulness passes, Fearless Leader will wind up nose first in a mud puddle. Then S. Korea will become the target of China's real estate scheme, and I have no doubt they will get it. They are a patient people and diligent, for better or for worse. Once Great Leader is gone the North Koreans will get a lift up from the suffering they endure now to a slightly less grave existence to one of mere subsistence, just like most of the rest of their new countrymen in the new, slightly larger China. At this point, though, I believe they would be damn thankful for whatever they can get.
It's a terrible, terrible state of affairs.
