avus is a man of mature years, whose sole apparent ambition is to achieve a form of sainthood in his life - I do not know whether or not he believes in God, but, as Oriana Fallaci once said, he lives as though he believed. His wife - who, to judge from what little I know, is as fine a person as himself - has just suffered from a fifteen-foot fall and a cracked skull.
