And for my suggestion: Something appropriately subversive about the ridiculous levels of motumania that's been infecting the Catholic blogs for far too long now. I'm all for Latin liturgies and Gregorian chant, but I swear if I see too many more of those "motu proprio will be released any day now" blog entries I'm going to start campaigning for liturgical dancers, or something.
Well, no, not really. But have at 'em, Fabio, because nobody could do it better!
It's like machismo, but it means "prominently exhibited or excessive socialistic tendencies or abuse of state power 'for the good of the people.'" (see 'Hugo Chavez' or 'Fidel Castro'.)
I never tire of intelligent objections to the U.S. Constitution's Second Amendment, which is why I only ever listen to one (or read) or two of them every few years. Experience has shown that most "educated opinions" are not such. You never fail to deliver the good stuff, and so I voted for that one.
My reckoning is that our opinion of American foreign policy runs close to the same. ...ish.
Islam? I don't think anyone really needs to wonder, not since you've already made some good posts on it in the past.
As far as the French go, if I genuinely cared I'd vote for that one, but I don't. I believe a lot goes into French hostility towards America, and much of it is obvious. I didn't vote for that one.
"In defence of socialism and state action." You know me. :)
As far as homosexuality and the Catholic faith goes, which isn't really very far at all, I think your opinions on it have been made clear in the past.
I've not seen 300, and I hated it. I bet it's for some, if not many of the same reasons, you do. Personally, I think that topic is too easy and probably not too unpopular.
"Make a suggestion"? Okay. I didn't vote that, but I'll bite. Hmmmm... Let... me... see. [2:01 pass by] Pollution and Global Warming. What can be done about China and the developing world's escalating contributions? (Might this link to your opinion on socialism and state action?)
I like the suggestion about China. One of my editing clients is a China apologist, and I just have to bite, bite, bite my tongue. So if you did something on China, I'd be interested.
Haha! Yes, a proud moment in our history, complete with an expanded vocabulary for me (the curse words). But a good post, I agree with it.
Seems a lot of people are interested in you saying more on the French and Americans. I know a lot of Americans and French people look down on the other but I didn't know until recently and never really understood it, so I didn't vote for that ... I don't know if I'll learn something or just fall asleep. ;)
Hmm, I just thought of something. Well I had a little help. In my library I just catalogued a new book called Virgin : the Untouched History. I skimmed through it and I feel it was a little inadequate. I remember in your American culture/sexual revolution essay you had mentioned virginity in a positive way and I'm curious to know more about your opinions on that.
Of course, maybe you already said a lot. I'm not done reading through your journal.
