Found in the London advertisements for Freecycle:

if anyone has augusto boal books they no longer need i'd be very grateful, they're prohibitively expensive. I'm specifically after "theatre of the oppressed"." games for actors and non actors" and "rainbow of desires" for an ongoing project with vulnerable, homeless women.
Many Thanks x

So the works by this theorist of "Theatre of the oppressed" are prohibitively expensive for one unfortunate soul who takes his theories seriously. The cause sounds good, so if anyone can actually help I shall be glad to provide the e-mail address; but am I the only one who senses a certain disconnect here?

What were Augusto Boal's theories?

I have absolutely no idea. All I know is what the ad said.

It sounds like a starving grad student.

Well, no. an ongoing project with vulnerable, homeless women sounds more like a charity to me, and in the context "vulnerable" means involved in prostitution, possibly on account of drugs. This is the British meaning of certain words, at least.

I didn't know that. In American we'd probably just say "involved in prostitution," or maybe "pimped out."

More like the differences between British and American English.

I had a British professor once. I think the guy was a socialist. I wasn't too fond of him, personally, but I loved to listen to him talk.

From the Wikipedia article:

He found that his attempts to inspire the people living in poor or 'slum' areas to rise up against racial and class inequality was inhibited by his own racial and class background (himself being white and comparatively financially comfortable). Therefore he created techniques which allowed the idea of rebellion and the impetus for change to come from within the target group.

In other words, manipulating people like the stupid sheep they are because you don't want to see them treated as objects.

Hmmm.
