They cut most of the aria, which makes it hard to understand why the crowd explodes into applause apparently mid-way; as a matter of fact, he must already have performed miracles - Nessun Dorma is designed to show off every detail of a tenor's voice from low to high and from pianissimo to fortissimo, and to drag the audience to its feet with that stunning final prophecy - The night must fade, the stars must go down, the stars must go down - with dawn comes VICTORY! (Dilegua notte, tramontate stelle, tramontate stelle - all'alba VINCERO'!). Which is exactly what he did. I do not think it is possible to do, what I heard of it, better. Neither the crowd nor the judges were expecting it, and the effect was electric. Standing ovation and smiles all around. A star is born, definitely.
