A kind of conference about the Harry Potter books, taking place in London - practically on my doorstep - after the publication of Deathly Hallows. It would be a wonderful opportunity to meet other fans - I know that Chthonya and Hijja are going to be there - but the price is murderous, and the list of events has put me violently off.
Ah, the arcane mysteris of Potterdom. Would that I had become a fan and read all the books as they came out. Perhaps then I would understand why things like this are so significant.
Well, at least visit http://www.jim-butcher.com/ and read the short stories, maybe try to catch one of the episodes of The Dresden Files from Sci Fi, you may like.
It's fun to meet all the real people in Fandom. They're really extraordinary, lovely people, more wonderful than even their writing and online personas convey. Don't let any one thing keep yo from meeting them - just go and buy Chthonya a coffee if you can find her. I'd sure she'll need one Saturday night while everyone is reading the book.
I will try. I certainly would love to meet Chthonya. But I will not pay £75-plus for the extraordinarily pretentious and unpromising line-up of speakers - look at the website and you will see what I mean.
