I am making a list of Things I Was Right About. Of course, the list of things I was wrong about is much longer, but this one is more fun to do. I regret you will have to take my word for it, because some of these are from WIPs.

1) The climax is a great battle in which Hogwarts is besieged. I have written this one over and over again.
2) Bellatrix gets what's coming to her at the hands of a mother defending her children (only in my case it was a Muggle)
3) Snape had loved Lily all his life, and his love and grief gave him the strength to resist Voldemort's mind probes (but nearly all of us had come to that conclusion by the end)
4) Sacrificial death (only I had Aberforth do it in Dumbledore's place, because of a third prophecy demanding the death of "Dumbledore", unspecified);
5) one of the Creeveys dies in battle;
6) Harry and the Trio survive;
7) Neville develops into a great warrior (the signs were there since OotP);
8) Luna survives, and by the time the victory is celebrated, she is still alone and there are no clear ships for her;
9) In the middle of the battle, Hogwarts is helped by a host of volunteer wizards come from outside and led by a Slytherin (Slughorn in this case, Zabini in mine);
10) The Malfoys somehow wiggle through all the disasters and treacheries and manage to survive more or less intact, if perhaps humiliated;
11) Narcissa at least has clearly had enough of the Dark Lord before the end.

More as I think of them.

do you think JKR's read The Great Divorce? The scene with Dumbledore and the soul of Voldemort made me wonder....

I am certain that she read Prince Caspian, at least.
CSL:
"Come back, Reepicheep, you little ass!" shouted Peter. "You'll only be killed. This is no place for mice." But the reidiculous little creatures were dancing in and out among the feet of both armies, jabbing with their swords. Many a Telmarine warrior felt his foot suddenly pierced as if by a dozen skewers, hopped on one leg cursing the pain, and fell as often as not. If he fell, the mice finished him off; if he didn't, someone else did.
JKR:
The house-elves of Hogwarts swarmed into the Entrance Hall, screaming and carrying knives and cleavers, and at their head, the locket of Regulus Black bouncing on his chest, was Kreacher, his bullfrog's voice audible even above the din: "Fight! Fight! Fight for my master, defender of house-elves! Fight the Dark Lord, in the name of brave Regulus! Fight!"
They were hacking and stabbing at the ankles and shins of Death Eaters, their tiny faces alive with malice, and everywhere Harry looked Death Eaters were folding under sheer weight of numbers, overcome by spells, dragging arrows from wounds, stabbed in the leg by elves, or else simply trying to escape, but swallowed by the oncoming horde.|
