Years ago, I started on my idea of what Buffy season 8 should have been. I stopped after a while, as I always do with chaptered fics, alas. But one thing I had already established near the beginning was that Buffy was going to have an affair with Willow.

That did not go down so well. Buffy is not a lesbian, everyone informed me. She was even a bit squicked when Willow first told her (that was not my impression, but never mind). She is strictly boy-oriented. Some people told me so politely. Some did not.

So guess what Joss Whedon has just gone and done?

Not with Willow, mind you. But it comes to the same thing.

Lol! Nothing beats Fandom clairvoyance, right? Although that edition's been out for some time now so you missed the initial fun.

To be honest, I have not been enjoying the comics series. It has even been tempting me to go back to my own version, ...if all the heroes lose? - which, obviously, also features the Harry Potter characters and my own.

Well, one character turning out to be lesbian is one thing, but two looks like a fetish.

On the other hand, Buffy and Faith had some chemistry.

On the day I really want to be slaughtered by the PC hordes, I will publish my actual view of Whedon's attitude to sex. And as I will then be heading for trouble beyond any I have yet had, I will also say why I think that the way this feature of his work is taken seriously is highly symptomatic.

What's wrong with fetishes, though?

Xander should have been the gay one and hooked up with that big guy Buffy dated, then we would have been spared Tara (I like her but her actress was not up to par and they made her wear hideous outfits for some reason), Anya, and the dead/evil lesbian cliche.

Don't tell me that you never noticed that Whedon has never once produced a remotely sympathetic, let alone positive, gay man! He is instinctively anti-gay. Remember when Andrew and Jonathan are running away to Mexico and they queasily realize that the truck driver could have designs on their virtue? That is, consistently, hiw attitude to male homosexuality.
