The Spanish national anthem, the Grenadiers' March, has no words (and I heard the Spanish fans singing along without words, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh, etc.); the first stanza of the German national anthem is connected with some rather nasty past notions and is usually regarded as forbidden. Still, the fans sang the second stanza lustily enough.

Date: 2008-07-01 08:09 am (UTC)However, I have to say that the fact that even this rather poor Germany side only let one past shows you why they are used to winning. They are so good at routine. Every time the ball got near the goal, you could see a couple of German defenders standing near the two poles of the goal, shrinking the space the keeper had to cover.
