Michael Chrichton, one of the few people who have genuinely been willing to take unpopular positions out of reason and conscience, has died on this historic day. Do you see a connection? I feel, at least, that the grimness and sadness of this day have been compounded. May a brave man sleep the sleep of the brave, "and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest"!

I have seen the ugliest kind of Obama-rejoicer eulogize him, as if they did not realize that his moral type - whether or not he supported Democratic candidates - was the exact contradiction of theirs. HE would never have rejoiced in joining a bandwagon, or allowed himself to be fobbed off with lies piled on top of lies and like it. And that sort of thing gives me an extra sense of just how morally and spiritually disastrous the last day has really been.
