That is Towery's view. I think McCain mucked things up for them by fighting to win in a most effective manner. The establishment candidate was Romney, with Giuliani as a fallback guy, but the Republican base informed both of them that they were not acceptable. So the country-club set set out to demolish McCain. I think they were even more scared of Palin than the opposition were: the notion of not one but two reformers on a winning presidential ticket, just as the congress party faced demolition, was too much to be borne. Well, they have had their way, and now I expect that Sarah Palin will meet with serious problems at home. I can see the Democratic leadership cooperating with the country-club Republicans to destroy any chance of a future Palin presidential run.
