Go figure.

A couple of days ago I wrote a post on "gender identity problems" that dealt with serious and controversial topics. I published it both hoping for a constructive reaction and fearing the kind of misrepresentation and outright lie I have experienced before (after all, the only trans-gendered LJer known to me is a sworn enemy of mine).

I got literally no reaction at all.

Go figure.

Ah well, you write so comprehensively that sometimes there really isn't anything to add, especially when one has little knowledge of the subject area.

Your experience of TG folk being suicidal doesn't tally with the TG people I know (of), but they're more social aquaintances than friends, so I couldn't say for sure. Your comments on hermaphrodites were pretty thought-provoking, though.

Thank you. I do not suppose that every TS/TG is close to suicide, or that, if they are, they will necessarily tell people. The two people I knew were very close friends, and told me things they would not have dreamed of telling others. On the other hand, perhaps my experience is limited, though I would argue that it is deep. And a feeling of despair does not necessarily express itself as suicidal despair; for instance, the LJer I mentioned is notoriously, and by his/her own admission, an addict to rage that makes yours truly sound mild and balanced by comparison.
