In Settle, Yorkshire, a local shop-owner called Tom Algie, who wanted a Christmas break, left his general store, called "Practically Everything", open for his clients to pick up whatever they needed, with a bowl to place payments in. The result? He came back to find 187 British pounds and two Euros - the exact price of all the goods that had been taken.

In Cagliari, Sardinia, a supermarket checkout lady called Tiziana Concu found a box containing 160,000 Euros. She took it round to the local Carabinieri (police) station, who tracked down the owner.

Ms.Concu and the good people of Settle do the horrible year 2008 more honour than it deserves.

Buona persona... anche se, se fossi stato io il datore di lavoro, ci avrei pensato lo stesso. Il punto non e' che i soldi sono stati ritrovati, ma che erano stati persi. Non si poteva contare sul miracolo di una persona onesta e compassionevole. Non credo che avrei licenziato il colpevole, ma gli avrei certamente fatto passare un brutto quarto d'ora.

Ad ogni modo, Dio benedica la signora Concu e la brava gente di Settle. Fa piacere sapere che ci sono anche persone oneste al mondo.
