http://www.expressindia.com/latest-news/Dont-attack-us-please-UK-ads-to-say-on-Pak-TV/421654/

Two questions:

1) Why do we have to learn this from an Indian newspaper - is this not the kind of news that should have come out in the Daily Mail or the Daily Express? Are they too craven, or just not doing their jobs?

2) Why has not everyone connected with this obscenity not been sacked without compensation, pension or golden parachute of any kind, been blacklisted for any further public employment, and subjected to all too well deserved public ignominy?

I think I'd like to see the ads before passing judgement. If people are being drawn into terrorism through lies and propoganda, what is wrong with trying to counter that propaganda?

If the ads really are people saying please, please don't attack us, then that is probably going to be too craven to be effective, but I supect that to be the work of some sub-editor looking for a decent headline.

As far as I can tell from extensively straining what the press is saying, the theme of the ads is "We're on your side, really!" rather than "Please don't hurt us!" as such.

Not that I expect it to be particularly effective in either case.

It's disgusting -- a nuclear-armed Great Power begging for mercy? Do the British not grasp how pathetic this makes them look, and also what an easy target this makes them seem?

After you've seen riot cops running away from jeering Muslims, you can believe anything.

I'm assuming that they had orders not to confront the rioters under any circumstances. But what sort of idiots would have sent them out under such orders?

Really, I find the degree not only of cowardice but of lack of common sense in the modern British Establishment to be almost unbelievably extreme.

I hate Fascists with a vengeance, as you know, and in other circumstances you would never find me saying this: but I sometimes suspect that Charles Johnson may be wrong. The BNP, the Vlaams Belang, the Austrian Freedom Party, may be the only way we electors have to communicate to our betters, snugly ensconced in their unshakeable positions, that we really have had enough of compromise and surrender. I exclude Italy because political debate there is at least still lively and not murdered by PC.

Oh. My. Word.

Wow.

I can see this backfiring and/or being used by terrorist organizations to illustrate how marvelously well their tactics are working. "See? We Make Them Beg Mercy!" or something like it will be their new recruiting slogan.

Good point, alas. And don't think they don's say things like that. There are thousands of jihadist websites with their own comments thread - I have seen at work in internet cafes here in Britain.
