A seminarian handed in an essay in which he said Christ died to take away our quilt. Teacher sent the essay back with a circle around quilt and a marginal comment..."yes, but he did promise to send a Comforter."
I was an unbelievably inattentive and forgetful child. I was capable of forgetting to take my books home or even that I had homework at all four out five days a week. Even the dire punishment of taking away reading privileges had no lasting effect.
At one point, in the hopes of making me a bit more aware, I was assigned to write an essay on the subject. I chose to use a Bible verse as my theme: "Help me, O Lord, unobserving as I am."
I did manage to improve on the utter cluelessness slowly as I grew up. But the memory is still pretty bad. Anything I want to make sure of must either be established as a daily habit or written in a system that is a daily habit.
When I was little I called the school cafeteria the "catholicteria". I had only attended Catholic school and honestly thought that was what they were called. :)
When I was eight or nine, I thought that Europe was divided between Christians, Protestant and Orthodox. Worse still, when I told this to a close relative years later, as a joke, it took him a while to understand it.

One problem. The actual word was undeserving.

2) Did you ever manage to change your forgetful ways?
