I have to really wonder that myself, though I know very little of the man or his work. The potential 'offense' factor of his work has led me to not indulge in much of it, although I do admit the ads for Bruno might finally reel me in.
Perhaps that's why he does what he does? I wouldn't know.
While I can appreciate politically incorrect satire, I found Borat unnecessarily crude. There's enough filth produced nowadays, and it's an insult to one's intelligence that comedy has been reduced to something even lower than juvenile potty talk.
Hear hear. I have been known to potty-mouth myself from time to time (e.g.: "that's a new one on me, as the prostitute said about the john"), I think this sort of thing does it in an oppressive and frankly demeaning manner.
Haha, that is a witty line, and I have nothing against that kind of humor in adult company. I would call that intelligent, even Chaucerian pottty humor.
What I am really referring to are really crude scenes in films that are just gross (one scene from Borat stands out in my memory, unfortunately--some sexual encounter between Borat and his overweight manager??) There was a lot of that in the Austin Powers' films, and that ruined that bits that actually were funny.
