New Friends

Coming back from an undesired and frankly sucky four-day absence from the internet (during which, however, I have started to rework my flat towards the shape I want it to have long term), I found that two people have friended me. This is highly surprising news, since one of them is apparently either an atheist or interested in it, and the other is a person with whom I had two or three vigorous online encounters. Well, at least I can hope that they know the worst. I hope I do not disappoint, that's all.

No, I had fallen behind with my ISP payments, and the company did not accept that I would pay them on Monday (today), which I did.

Oh, and to bring you up to speed: the portable has been repaired, with a brand new hard drive, and is working OK, although the power feed is getting temperamental.

What are the specific symptoms with the power? We should really figure out the underlying problem -- you shouldn't be going through power supplies this quickly.

From time to time, the power just does not get through, and the machine goes on on the battery. I only find out when I get a warning that the battery is dangerously low. In general, moving the connection about a bit tends to solve the problem. I have a suspicion that something within the connection is out of line.

That does sound like either the cable is stressed, or else a contact in the connector itself is becoming bent.
