Such creatures should not be allowed to pollute communities. They should be driven into the desert like scapegoats. If you can read this without wanting to beat this bozo's head into the ground and then dance a Russian dance on it, you have the toleration of a saint. Personally, I would pay to see him thrown out of the human race.

The man is an oaf and, probably, severly constipated.

You are much too kind. I say he is a definite rail, tar and feathers case.

What have you got against a modest and useful organ of the human body?

Excellent point; the comparison is unfair. I'm not sure if there's even a word to describe a grown "man" who likes making little children cry.

No, but the USA in particular have many useful customs to deal with such. As I said elsewhere on this post, a rail, tar and a lot of feathers would be quite appropriate.

Clearly, the primary issue here is that this "man" is horrid in his treatment of children. His comments also indicate a general disdain for libraries as worthwhile, which makes me wonder whether he reads at all (he does not have children, so he does not have a personal stake in the nurturing of the next generation of adults).

What a classless jerk. The fact that he sprinkles his language with the f-word does not surprise me one bit.

And this is a town not too far from mine. :(

Being a conservative or a libertarian is one thing, but being a totally classless, mean dick is another. I agree. Xinos ought to be run out of town on a rail, sheerly based on his personality. I'd wager he's the kind of guy who'd tell a double-amputee begging in the street to "just get a job".

What a wretched man.

Yup. I'd have bet money on his political leanings even before they were mentioned in the story.

Most of that ilk aren't quite so aggressively nasty, especially to children, because they're better at putting a nice public face on, but "Libraries are an indulgence and a waste of taxpayer dollars" and "If I don't have kids, I shouldn't have to pay for schools/libraries/immunizations for low income families/etc." is a pretty common attitude.

In other words, taxation is only acceptable if it benefits me personally; and in other words I owe nothing to the community in which I was born, in which I grew up, and which protects and legitimates me and all I have. The wisest of the Greeks thought differently.

PS: that does not mean that I regard any kind of use of tax as acceptable. Such things as the National Endowment for the Arts, for instance, strike me as poisonous. But so does the notion that one ought not to think what he can do for the community, but what the community can do for him.

This story has more detail than the last I read - he actually said, with a reporter present, knowing it might get into an article, "I don't want to live next to poor people. I don't want poor people in my town"?

Really? Really?

(It makes me want to donate huge sums of money to my local library, though, so he's done one good thing in his life...)

Good point. I think their organic by-products would be more to the point.
