If ever Mahathir is anywhere near me, I will try to perform a citizen's arrest. Bear in mind that he has form. He has been saying this kind of filth for years.

what kind of cake do you like?

Me jumping on the bastard, dragging him to the nearest cop or police station, and charging him with whatever charge can be got up in the country he is in. It would be easier in Italy or other continental countries, where there is such a crime as "apology of crime".

PS: given my body weight, if I ever were to jump on any bastard, that bastard would be in danger of serious injury.

Wow. There's not a word of this, or *anything* like it, in the general US press.

Well, it's not actually news. This swine has been saying the same thing for years.

That's just the thing. I've *never* read about him saying such things over here, and I'm a news-follower.

It's not news. The U.S. press has covered Mahathir's anti-Semitism before, but he's no longer very important. When Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is no longer the President of Iran, his every anti-Semitic utterance probably won't be newsworthy either.

Yes, except:
1) Ahmedinajad has never gone as far as to say that the Holocaust was a good thing and needed repeating - he has enough morality left to want to pretend that it did not happen;
2) Ahmedinajad has never been the elected leader (his first election was dubious, his second plainly fraudulent) of a supposedly moderate, supposedly democratic, supposedly friendly developing Asian tiger economy. Think about it.

Actually, I doubt that. I suspect he just has enough political savvy not to say it in public.

Well, considering that he has spent a vast amount of government money in holocaust denial conferences, if he does not believe holocaust denial himself, he is a pretty thorough liar.

The two are not mutually exclusive. He might believe that the Holocaust has been greatly exaggerated, and also (more privately) believe that it would have been a good thing if it actually had gone further. Given that most Holocaust deniers are by definition raving anti-Semites, I suspect this is true for many of them.

In fact, this is quite clear in the case of the more media-savvy fascist/white supremacist movements. They publicly deny advocating racial hatred or violence, while simultaneously railing against the "Jewish lobby," endorsing (implicitly or explicitly) Nazi propaganda, and siding with Holocaust deniers.

PS: a member of my family was murdered in Dachau, although we don't have a drop of Jewish blood that I know of. The Nazis did not just kill Jews. They wiped out whole Italian villages, men, women and children, in the last two years of the war. I grew up in Milan when the horror of Nazi occupation was a living memory and people could point at the "lairs" of Nazi police and tell of the abductions, the torture and the deliberate terrorism.

And it is perhaps worth pointing out that today is Holocaust Memorial Day.
