Strange consistency

A couple of years ago I deleted and eventually banned someone for horrid and strangely unselfconscious Jew-bashing. ("Well, of course it's true that Jews danced in the streets when the Twin Towers went down, and I can't imagine why you should say that I am prejudiced against Jews! I'm a very put-upon person!")

Since then this same person has resurfaced as a rabid Snapefan/Slytherfan, convinced that Hogwarts is a horrible brainwashing place, that Snape was a true hero, and that everyone from Albus Dumbledore to Neville Longbottom is varying degrees of evil and/or brainwashed. Oh, and that there was nothing discernibly wrong about blood prejudice and the Voldemort movement.

How strange...a kind of loss of touch with reality there.

I give them that Snape is cool...mainly due to the Alan Rickman factor...but still.

Well, I guess if you have that kind of prejudice, it is better that is directed toward the fictional world of Harry Potter than towards the real world. It's odd that this person doesn't get that the Pureblood prejudice is intended to represent the prejudice against the Jewish, among other kinds as well.

I don't think it is. I have no evidence that this person has changed views about Jews in the last two years. I do know, however, that she took this paranoid, issue-ridden nonsense: http://www.journalfen.net/community/fandom_wank/1220548.html - as a real revelation. It is a matter of adding persecution complex to persecution complex.

PS: I wonder what happened to the person who used to trawl my LJ for passages s/he could misrepresent or lie about in f_w. Perhaps, as I kept advising him/her, s/he has finally got a life. Or perhaps the f_w mods have finally seen through him/her.

Sorry - I can't follow the discussion. Are you saying the rotten things the Weasleys and Hermione and Harry did were not rotten because Voldemort was orders of magnitude worse? Sort of like comparing Nazis to Pol Pot is OK, but Nazis compared to a dog trainer who corrects a nippy puppy is over the top? (Just looking for clarification, not a fight. I have no horse in this race.)

I know a rabid Slytherin fan and Malfoy-identifier who's Jewish and a strong supporter of Israel. (I think she trashes Dumbledore, but doesn't defend Voldemort.) I'm not sure what we should be concluding, here.

In the case of this person, intellectual sins definitely go together. As for your Dumble-basher, not all supporters of Israel are nice people. I met one or two I would cross the road to avoid - people with colossal chips on the shoulder and an irrational hatred for Christians and/or religious Jews. I do not support Israel because I like that kind of person, but because I think it is right.
