Normally I'd agree about the being sensitive part, but the fact that you mentioned slash of all things when I myself write it cannot but make me feel as if the comment was directed at me.

And joking about "killing" a person and "raping" them? I don't know about you but the implications are quite different from the first word to the latter.

Yes. Killing is worse.

Obviously you have never spoken to a rape victim before. There are worse things than death.

Obviously I have spent half a dozen years of my life in close friendship to a victim of homosexual rape. I suggest you do not speak of that whereof you know nothing. And I still tell you that killing is worse. I hope you never lose a friend, let alone find out as I have. And one last word: emotional blackmail never works and does not make you any more lovable either.

As a matter of fact, I know exactly what I'm talking about. Rape is a hideous crime no matter who commits it.

And the emotional blackmail? Whereever you've read that in my replies, it's certainly not blackmail on my part.

You did not know anything about my life and made an assumption that was almost grotesquely wrong. I know everything anyone can know about rape without having actually suffered it; and I know about as much as one can about the use of violence in personal relationships. And I regard your attempt to "pull rank" on me about rape as nothing short of moral blackmail. Now will you please stop this nonsense? I did not mean to injure your feelings, and I am sorry if I did, but I suggest that a fondness for homosexual pornography is a poor position to try to assert one's moral superiority over anyone.

You know what? We're obviously not talking on the same page here so stopping it is probably a good thing.

"moral superiority", huh? I'm not even going to try to answer that.

This whole thing is a misunderstanding. That's fine with me.

I agree with [livejournal.com profile] ariss_tenoh. Rape is worse than death. The suffering of the victim never ends. At least with death, there is a clear end to it.

That's your opinion. As for the suffering of a rape victim, you have nothing to teach me. I spent half a dozen years under one roof with a person who had been raped as a child. I saw what it did to a life. But murder is a worse crime than rape, and anyone who says otherwise is inviting rapists to murder their victims.

Oh, and to answer your original question: I like everything about you except your silly addiction to slash. And there is enough good stuff coming out of your LJ for me to ignore the rest. But if you imagine that most people share, or even like, that addiction of yours, I suggest you have a look around. Incidentally, I dislike most of Mark Twain; his gags, though excellent, do not in my view make up for his provinciality and misanthropy.

Disregarding that 'comment', I see slash as just another genre of fiction/anime. Some like it, some don't. If I had the delusion that everyone liked it, would I be putting a warning on my info page about it?

If you really "saw slash as just another genre of fiction", you would not be warning people about it. People do not put advisories in their discussions about, say, epic poetry, spy fiction, or romance; they only do so when they know that the material they are handling is objectionable. Please try to see the logic of what you say.

No but they do put warnings when the content borders on pornography and erotica, which is what most of slash is.

And when they know many people don't have a preference for it.

You are being evasive; I wonder whether it is conscious or just a habit of mind you absorbed from contemporary culture. People do not like various genres - I myself, for instance, dislike spy fiction and INDIANA JONES-type adventure intensely. A former friend of mine could not bear anything that even felt like romance (for this, I think, there were personal reasons). But one does not put advisories on these things, nor recommend that minors do not read them. Only pornography has that honour. And for that there is a reason. If you do not see that, it is because you do not want to see it, not because you honestly do not understand the difference; the difference is obvious. And for the record, I have written both homosexual and straight porn (this before we get another red herring).

Have I just not admitted that slash is pornography and erotica? Or am I talking in riddles?

What you have not admitted is that pornography is qualitatively different from other genres. That is the issue.

That is probably because I don't see it as being different from other genres. It just requires ana dult to read them.

And if you can't resist insulting me and my character? Let's stop the 'conversation' right here. For both our sakes.

Now this really is bizarre. In this entry, I have not even said anything about you at all except for the statement that you would not admit a certain matter. How on Earth is that an insult? If pointing out what one regards as problems with another's argument was an insult, debate on any issue whatever would be impossible.
