I find no habit more loathsome than putting words in my mouth and ascribing to me opinions I do not hold, but which it would be convenient for the opponent if I held. That is a habit of morons at best, swine at worst, and those who do it immediately go on my "never touch again with a bargepole" list.

A discussion thread over in inverarity's LJ. But it is just as well to have it written down anyway. When anyone ascribes a view to me, they would do well to be sure I have held it in the exact words they quote - unless they actually desire to lose any further contact with me.
