Italy has been a disaster this year, but I sort of expected it. Italy are always rotten in the world cup that follows one when they have done well (1974, 1986, etc.). And all things considered, I still would rather not be French tonight - sorry, [personal profile] shezan and everyone, but that was no performance for a world cup contender.

Our team are a bunch of overpaid, overfed CLOWNS. One of the spectators at the open-air screening of today's sorry game on Place du Trocadéro put it best - "they shouldn't be allowed on a plane but made to WALK back from South Africa."

Well, on the plus side, they have given the unfortunate hosts, whose team was the worst South Africa have had in decades, an opportunity to feel good. That was nice of them. 8-)

According to ITV, they actually were sent home economy class and in danger of meeting fans. Have you heard anything like that?

It's all over the papers here. They're supposedly flying back later today (Thursday) in a charter plane with coach class standards. It's not sure however that the whole team will be on the flight - some may leave separately (and buy their own tickets, one assumes.)
