Yes, and it works. My friend ani_bester has come up with an absolutely delightful idea for satire/allegory which makes wonderful use of her charming, idiosyncratic art style and is frankly the most promising idea for a comic I have seen in years. This is roughly the premise of the animé "Axis Powers Hetalia", although that applies to nations rather than states.

Oh yeah, that was one of the things that kinda inspired me (I'm pretty up front on that account in the LJ post before the one linked to). That along with some political cartoons and other things.

I think if Hetalia hadn't dissapointed me so much I might not have been as pushed to do this. heck if I thought I could get away with it, I'd take on WWII era personifications as a side project. I think Hetalia does a subpar job at this concept. ..... Oh and FPB if you'll love this, Hetalia is a mashing of two Japanese words, the word for useless and the word for Italy).

I knew the Japanese had these racist attitudes towards Italy - except for the great Hayao Miyazaki, and except when they want to look fashionable. Well, I'll take the good opinion of Miyazaki.
