About half of the government civilians I work with make 6-figure incomes for basically sitting around and ordering Lance Corporals to take out their trash and vacuum their offices.
And guess who's getting fucked by the military budget cuts? Not the civilian government employees, hell no. It's Marines like me. My MOS is completely locked out for promotions since the Corps can't afford to promote Marines who are actually good at their jobs.
Weeds are overgrowing everything. The nation needs a gardener. A just and brutal gardener.
As to the government employees being overpaid, that is mostly true across the board with one exception: the technical science and engineering jobs. Those disciplines are very close to the non-government salaries. My husband is one of them. His salary is technically lower than what he could be making from a contractor, but the benefits are better and the job security and variability is better, so we stay with the military. It's the liberal arts and business majors that get way overpaid compared to their non-government counterparts. And my husband does not make a six figure income.
