If we had gone with Theodore Roosevelt's proposal for rape/molestation to be automatically punishable by death, I would volunteer to be an executioner.

In many states, a rape conviction used to automatically carry the death penalty. In practice, this resulted in fewer rape convictions overall and a disproportionately larger number of convictions and executions of black and other minority men. Thus, among other reasons, the national moratorium on the death penalty in the late 60s.

I'm categorically and absolutely opposed to the death penalty, so I wouldn't support it myself for rape cases. But for those who do, I would say, be careful what you wish for.

I'm against the death penalty except in wartime and in cases such as the Nuremberg Trial, but this is entrely irrelevant here - where, in the name of school sports, a monstrous injustice has been perpetrated. Let us please avoid going off on tangents.
