A copper IUD is 27.44 euros and a hormone-release one is 125.45 euros in France. The Sécurité Sociale (National health) pays for 65% of these prices, which are nationally-set. An ob-gyn visit will cost anywhere from 30 to 100 euros for a very grand one. La Sécu pays for 65% of 30 euros. Close on 90% of the French have complementary medical insurance on top, so that the whole process is very nearly free.
It would make sense, if you're an American, to treat yourself to a holiday here, getting a cheap airfare and paying full blast. It might still come cheaper, and you'll have seen the Louvre, too.
Ditto for scans, MRIs, and any kind of medical check-up you might need. An added advantage is that the results will not be passed on to anyone, especially not an insurance company, since patient confidentiality is taken seriously here.
