All these posts came out in a few days:

I am going to try to move to Dreamwidth, but that is going to involve having to archive and save my Livejournal stuff, and that might take time and/or effort. But as far as I am concerned the bastards have messed us around once too often. Three strikes and you're out; or as we say in Italy, Uno perdona, due perdona, tre bastona. Once you forgive, twice you forgive, three times and you take a stick to the sod.

I can confirm what pandoraculpa said. If you're doing it when there's a large-scale influx of disgruntled ex-LJers into DW, it's entirely possible that the process may run very slowly or even fail outright, but sit tight and have another go when there's less traffic and it'll import the lot, comments and all.

The only thing DW doesn't (yet?) do that I sorely miss is image hosting. The moment they get that sorted, I won't be renewing my paid LJ account any more.

I hope I got it wrong. Do you mean that the posts can't hold pictures, or videos? Because you know I use them a lot.

No, no, you can embed pictures and videos perfectly well, it's just that DW won't HOST your pictures the way LJ will if you have a paid account. If your pictures are on Photobucket or wherever you'll be just fine.

I'm not sure whether the video embedding works properly with posts imported from LJ, though; I think there may be some incompatibilities in the code. It isn't an issue for me because I don't do much video embedding. But I do have a fair number of pictures on LJ Scrapbook that I'd want to move over to DW before giving up this account.
