To sum up, the man who created the Ghost Rider character - which has featured in a successful movie and made a lot of money for Marvel - was sued by Marvel because, being elderly and unemployed, he made a little money selling Ghost Rider material at conventions without authorization. I have a lot to say about the morality of this, but never mind. Just get in touch with the persons featured in the linked article and send them your money. Also please link in your own LJs. And a few abusive e-mails for Disney and Marvel would not be out of place either.

Since you seem not to have read my answers to people who made the same worthless point - only much better - I reproduce them in full.

-You talk as though legal success had anything to do with morality. But the position you start from is Marvel as the dragon sitting over the gold: "We own the rights to these characters, and if the people who actually created them want to pretend otherwise, then we will destroy them". And your conclusion is mafia-like: nice little business you've got here, be a shame if something had to happen to it. You as good as argue that Friedrich has to be punished for bringing a lawsuit - something which is the right of any free human being on Earth. Your morality-free corporate-legal world is not one I want to live in.

- What servile bullshit. You have to get into your mind that the whole situation with copyright laws is simply an abuse. They were never meant to make works of art the possession of a corporate monster, let alone to the exclusion of the original creators. Copyright laws were created exclusively so that the creators of a story, a drawing, an invention of any kind, should be able to benefit from their own work. That corporations then perverted this obvious fact, and have since gone as far as to systematically use it against the creators, is one of those things for which the breed of lawyers has so large a holding in the lands of Hell. It stinks. It is contrary to the spirit and purpose of the laws. It is plain evil, and it leads men into doing evil. And it is appallingly bad for the artform. Compare the life story of Charles M.Schulz, who owned his own work, and of Jack Kirby, who did not. And for God's sake stop defending the indefensible.

- Nothing could be better for the characters than if Marvel were to lose its trademark. And the claim that "they could have gone much further" than to try to exact $17,000 from a penniless, unemployed 68-year-old who caused them to earn millions is the sickest thing yet to be said about this whole mess. What could they have done, kill him? And considering the likelihood of his losing any home he has and ending up in the street in the current climate, the question is not rhetorical.

An immoral law is no law, and anyone who says otherwise is too servile to deserve the protection of the law. Would you have returned a runaway slave under American "law" before 1865?

You're repeating yourself, and you're not any more convincing the second time around. In fact, by trying to be clever, you just prove that you don't understand what you are talking about. If I buy a hand-made shoe from you and use it for walking, I haven't impinged on your rights. If I buy it, copy it, and then use the copies to compete against you, I'm a fucking scoundrel, a rattlesnake, a creature without honour or worth. And if on top of it I claim the LEGAL (!!) right to prevent you from using your own design, and the exclusive right to use it myself, I am a barbarous creature of night, an undead piece of vermin whose best destiny is to die swiftly with a stake through what it uses for a heart. And if the law favours me, then it is no law, just a vile conspiracy of lawyer criminals, of the kind that protects rich criminals from Naples to Beijing. End of debate. And thanks for giving me the best possible reason to use pirated files.

Oh dear. So I'm emotionally involved. Dear dear me. Well, you know, sheer evil does that to me. But since you seem happy to live with it, I will not insist. Anyone who gets to be an adult without realizing that there is such a thing as right and wrong is not capable of understanding most adult speech.

P.S.: please stop posting repetitions of things you have already repeated three times. They don't get any better, and life is too short to put up with apologies for corporate corruption and intellectual theft.
